Project: Snowy Day: Painting a Snowman
Materials: “The Snowy Day” and “Painting a Snowman” video. 9X12 gray paper, white oil pastel, paint brush, Sharpie fine point, and tempera cakes. Objective: Learn about the artist and author Ezra Jack Keats (conduct research on the web). Watch the video of his book. Watch the video on critiquing video on the Home page. Use the critiquing criteria to discuss the illustrations. Watch the instructional video. Paint a snowman using the oil resist method. Procedure: Introduction to Ezra Jack Keats. Watch the video “The Snowy Day” and discuss the illustrations. Follow the critiquing steps and watch the critiquing video. Next, watch the “Paint the Snowman” video once and then watch it again to complete the picture. Pause as needed.

Project: Cubism: Oil Pastel Cat
Materials: “Millions of Cats” and “Cubism: Oil Pastel” video. 9X12 white paper, oil pastels, and the image of the cat on a grid. Objective: Review what was learned about Cubism. Learn to create a grid by folding a 9X12 piece of paper into fourths. Learn to use grid coordinates to draw a cat. Procedure: Review what was learned about Cubism. Rewatch the Cubist video from lesson 7 if necessary. Watch the video “Millions of Cats” to observe the features of a cat. Project: Watercolor Owl Painting
Materials: Watercolor paint, 9X6 paper, brush, black, gold, silver, bronze Sharpie markers, crayola markers and a pencil. Objective: Learn about owls, paint an owl with watercolor paints and crayola markers. Learn the wet on dry and pulling color techniques. Procedure: Watch the “Owl Moon” video and discuss the contents. Next, watch the instructional video once and then watch it again as you paint. Pause the video as needed. |
