Project: Symmetrical Design
Materials: “Balance” and “Symmetrical Balance K2” video, pencil, scissors, glue stick, multiple colors of 9 X 12 construction paper and a hanger. Objective: Learn about Symmetrical balance and then create a design with construction paper. Procedure: Watch the video “Balance” and discuss the contents of the video. Next, watch the video “Symmetrical Balance K2” video once and then watch it again as you complete the project. Pause as needed. Lesson 17: Asymmetrical Design
Project: Balance: Asymmetrical Design
Materials: “Balance” and “Asymmetrical Balance 3 to 5” video, pencil, scissors, glue stick, two colors of 9 X 12 construction paper and a hanger. Objective: Learn about asymmetrical balance and then create a design with construction paper. Glue this design to the back of the Symmetrical Design with the hanger in-between. Procedure: Review the video “Balance” and discuss the contents of the video. Next, watch the video “Asymmetrical Balance 3 to 5” video once and then watch it again as you complete the project. Pause as needed. Lesson 18: Radial Design
Project: Radial Design
Materials: “Balance” and “Radial Balance 3 to 5” video, pencil, scissors, glue stick, two colors of 9 X 12 construction paper and ribbon. Objective: Learn about radial balance and then create a design with construction paper. Attach the radial design to the Symmetrical and Asymmetrical Design with ribbon. Procedure: Review the video “ Balance” and discuss the contents of the video. Next, watch the video “Radial Balance 3 to 5” once and then watch it again as you complete the project. Pause as needed.

Project: Paint: Painting Overlapping Trees Materials: “Elements of Art,” “Value” and “Paint: Overlapping Trees” video. 9X12 white paper, pencil, paint brush, paint pallet, stir stick or plastic knife, and tempera paint. Objective: Review the Elements of Art, learn how to mix tints to paint a gradient design. Also learn the terms: hue, gradient and value. Procedure: Review the contents of the videos “Elements of Art” and “Value Song”. Discuss the term, “Gradient.” Next, watch the “Paint: Overlapping Trees” video once and then watch it again to mix the tints and to paint the picture. Pause as needed.
