Materials: Video about Van Gogh, an instructional video, photograph of a sunflower, 9X12 white paper, 12X18 white paper, pencil, plastic paper protector and ruler. (If you do not have a color printer, 12X18 sheet of paper or plastic page protector, please stop by MSCS to pick one up)
Objective: Learn about Van Gogh, use a ruler to draw two grids and use this method to enlarge a picture of a sunflower. Procedure: Use a pencil and a ruler to draw 2 inch grids on a 8.5 X 11 piece of paper. Next, slide the gridded paper into the page protector and then use a ruler and an ultra fine black permanent marker to copy the grid. Remove the paper and replace it with a printed color copy of a sunflower. On a piece of 12X18 sheet of paper, draw grids that are 3 inches larger. Carefully observe each box in the grid and transfer the image one grid box at a time to copy and enlarge the color printout of the sunflower.
